The Kenneth More Theatre (KMT) is Ilford's centre for the performing arts, housing professional and amateur productions in its 365 seat auditorium as well as its 50 seat studio theatre.
N9 worked with KMT's management to delevop an identity that has enabled maximum recognition with minimum budget for a venue run on a shoe-string by an amazingly enthuisiastic team. We found, its fair to say, the venue's exterior (built in 1974) isn't the most pleasing on the eye. So rather than gloss over this, we embraced the building, warts and all as somewhere Ilford should be proud of. Using its profile, colouring and cladding as identity elements and designing around a typeface designed in the same year as the building.
Additionally, we built a new website at kmtheatre.co.uk incorporating a booking system by Spektrix. Comparing site sessions from Nov 1 - Jan 31 KMT has seen a 44% increase on the previous year. Then after completing two season brochures in 2017, N9 we're asked to expand the identity to the two studio spaces within the building giving the Theatre a toolkit to expand their brand reach.
The theatre provides a place where the Arts can thrive in Ilford, whilst creating an outlet for diverse community participation. The identity functions to be able to accommodate production imagery of differing quality and themes so it adopts a calm background for the productions to sit together.
